QGOA
Queensland Gridion Officials Association
ABOUT QGOA
Established in 1987, the QGOA has been responsible for providing officials to the sport of gridiron (american football) in Queensland. The QGOA is also responsible for the training of new officials, and providing a pathway for officials to progress to national and international level.
National and International Officiating
The QGOA is a member of the Australian Gridiron Officials Association (AGOA), and any QGOA member with appropriate experience and performance evaluations is eligible to seek appointment to national officiating panels. The AGOA assigns officials to the Australian Gridiron League, other interstate games, and junior national championships. Three QGOA members were appointed to the AGL panel in 2012, and two QGOA members have been appointed to the junior national championships in 2013. In 2014, six QGOA officials are on the AGL panel, and 3 QGOA officials are working games in the WAGL. QGOA officials have officiated games in New Zealand and in Europe.
Reciprocal arrangements exist with all other states, thus allowing QGOA members to officiate in any other state of Australia. Additionally, the Australian Gridiron League runs from March to May in even numbered years, with teams representing each state in national competition. Odd numbered years see the junior nationals, a week long tournament for 14 to 18 year old players. 2014 also saw the introduction of the WAGL, the national ladies' full-contact league. From 2016, all national leagues will become annual events.
